The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Voice Anger About Sizing Updates
Members of the platform have expressed outrage due to a modification that led to listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The popular resale platform has revised its size classifications for women's and children's garments but did not contact every member regarding the update.
Digital Channels Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers are expressing on platforms stating that platform listings now display a different size category compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.
The platform stated the updated approach better aligns with similar services.
It has advised users to check their listings and manually change the size where appropriate, which has left users frustrated.
Sizing System Updates
Before the change, the measurements included numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes an alphabetical indicator and numerical range like S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the measurements have been reclassified - such as a large size used to be a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
Shopper Experiences
A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
Stephanie Gallen, located in Scotland, said garments she listed with size 14 tags were appearing on the platform as measurements 20-22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they will likely be quite upset," she said.
Required Changes
Another shopper, from Derby, said she had been left angered because the modification necessitated personal updates the sizes on "every single listing".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, since I have chronic health issues and platform income has been essential after experiencing income reduction," she said.
Service Background
The service features exceeding 100 million members, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has become a favored option versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time that an unexpected update to the app has proved unpopular: last year, the platform withdrew an update to its shipping options due to shopper criticism.
